Solway Historic/Targa Rally
Wigton Motor Club’s Solway Historic/Targa Rally was on Sunday October 19th. Two SOSCC crews managed to get an entry on this event which had a reserves list.
In the Historic event, Roland and Thelma Proudlock drove the recently refurbished 1974 MGB GT, (thanks mainly to Bob Sloan), and had a great day on their first ever Classic event to finish 22nd from 36 finishers and no complaints from the car. Special thanks to Drew McLean who loaned his starter motor at the eleventh hour to ensure the Proudlocks got to compete. Several modifications will be carried out prior to their next event, including hoisting the exhaust more than two inches off the ground!.

In the Targa rally, Bob Sloan and Derek McCrae took the recently built Manta to a fine 8th overall from 19 finishers, the car running faultlessly all day. Bob’s most recent addition to the car, a hydraulic handbrake, came into play at every opportunity and put a huge smile on his face. It was also the only manta on the whole event, which had a wide range of classic cars entered.
Unfortunately it was a bit dry for both of our cars which would otherwise have been more able to get the back end sliding round the tighter tests.
Well done also to club member Stephen Palmer who was Clerk of the Course, on running a pretty smooth rally.
