Merrick. September 1st.
Sorry for the delay in updating this. Been away for the weekend.!
Three club crews tackled four forest stages around Newton Stewart on Saturday, the penultimate round of the 2012 Scottish Rally Championship.
At two, behind last years winner, Mike Faulkner, were David Bogie and Kevin Rae in the venerable old Evo 9 (which is now apparently in retirement) and after a well paced drive which is their trade mark, they won the rally and thereby the 2012 SRC, against some much younger and more technically advanced cars. Once again, this proves that you can have all the fancy machinery you want but you still have to be able to drive it. Very well done to David and Kevin, now FOUR TIMES SCOTTISH RALLY CHAMPIONS !!!!.
At 31 were Roy Eide-Johansen and Mark Simpson in Roy`s Mk I Escort and they took 38th overall after the 4 stages.
And at 80, but running up front with the two wheel drives, weare Tam Brown and Mike Curry in Tam`s 205 GTI. The GTI is now a ‘different shape’ as it was comprehensively bundled near the end of the 19 miler!. Thankfully, while the pair were initially taken to hospital, they have been discharged without any serious injuries.
Here are Frank Love’s excellent pictures.
