Cheviot Rally on Otterburn
What a day –
“Club member Mike Curry had a rewarding day on the Cheviot stages on Sunday where he achieved a long held ambition and co -drove for Ashley Field from Nottinghamshire in his fabulous Darrian T90 GTR.
It was Mikes first event since his Merrick incident and the pair came home 10th Overall and first in class. However the ranges were covered in thick ice at the appointed start time and the organisers took the sensible decision to delay the start by 35 minutes in the hope of a slight thaw. Despite this some drivers still took the decision to put their cars back in their pods and head for home.
Running at car 13 and with a new due time at MTC1 of 9.11 things could have gone horribly wrong. However despite being unable to put the power down on the early stages due to the ice the pair slowly climbed back up the field as conditions improved and by the last couple of stages, they were putting in top 4 stage times.
Mike was well impressed with the power of the Millington Diamond powered machine which had acceleration that made Andy Davisons M3 feel like a shopping car although getting in and out of it was a different matter!
Despite the driver having little knowledge of the ranges they were both happy enough with the result and Mike has started buying a lottery ticket again in the hope of buying a similar machine – it was fabulous.”
