Grierson & Graham Targa Rally 2015
Grierson & Graham Targa Rally Results 2015
Many thanks to all the landowners who supported this event including Oakbank Services, James Jones & Sons, London & Scottish and of course, Dalswinton Estates who really did us proud with two amazing long tests, both of which were tackled twice.
It’s pretty obvious we chose the wrong date to run this event and in future more attention should be paid to the date proximity of other targas going on around us. Eventually just thirteen cars left the start at sponsor Grierson & Graham’s Garage in Dumfries, as one entry failed to turn up. For all we know they’re still on their way!.
Those who did compete made up a small but perfectly formed entry, all of whom really enjoyed their long and very testing day.
The morning rain ensured things were slippery enough for two runs at each of the four tests at Jones’ Yard, the Runway, Collin and Oakbank.
On the second attempt at Collin, Mark Simpson and David Hayton stopped against something too solid to try to nudge out of the way, the 205 GTi ending its day here in a sorry state. However, the guys were undmaged and set off to spectate on the fabulous Dalswinton tests.
All other starters finished, Danny and Andy Pattie elated to have done so well despite a wayward exhaust on the Mini and Karina McLean lifting the award for the first lady overall. Ian Anderson fitted the ugliest wheels possible on his Escort but that didnt stop him and Gaz doing well.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners several of whom were doing their first ever targa.
Well done to all our officials and marshals who ensured the rally ran as smoothly as possible. Thanks also go to our guest officials, Russell Fair from East Ayrshire Car Club who acted as Club Steward and of course, local hero Peter Clingan who sound checked and scrutineered the cars. A personal thank you to Thelma who did signing on and results yet again with great professionalism.
Final big thank you goes to Grierson & Graham of course, who yet again supported our event, keeping a long standing comnnection between the company and the club alive.
We must not forget that this rally was run in memory of fellow club member Colin Marshall who died suddently recently. This type of event was Colin’s favourite and he would have relished getting mucked in to whatever job he had on the day. As has been said before, he is and will continue to be sadly missed.
