Border Counties
The Scottish Rally Championship revved up again on Saturday with the Border Counties Rally.
Four SOSCC crews were competing;
At 2 were David Bogie and Kevin Rae in the Focus and they won every stage but one, dominating things from the front to end 47 seconds ahead of second placed Euan Thorburn
Greg and Chris McKnight were at 111 in the Mk II Escort and they finished 34th. They had a good day and things are definitely improving with the car, not to mention Greg getting faster as he gets used to rear wheel drive.
James Robertson and Colin Maxwell ran at 121 in the C2R2. They finished 47th and seventh in class which was quite an achievement, considering the engine was cutting out on stages 3 and 4. It then stopped on 5 but they did manage to get it going again and were more than happy just to record a finish.
Scott and David Sloan had their Corsa at 143. Scott reports: “Got to the end of the rally but only just. We only have one wheel on the car pointing the right way !. Had a big moment on stage 1 but got away with it. In stage 2 we ended up in a ditch, bending the rear beam. In stage 3 we had a big off, knocking the front wheel back 2 inches and ripping a rear tyre off its rim. In stage 4 we almost ploughed into the back of Peter Stewart’s car that was parked in a ditch. Finally, in stage 5, the car had had enough and stalled after a half spin, taking us seven minutes to restart. So it was a disaster from start to finish really. Lots to fix now.”
