We’ve got a ‘Monkey’
No – actually we dont – but if you speak in Cockney rhyming slang we kind of do, as any Eastender would describe £500 as a ‘monkey’..
And we have a monkey because Paul Whyte and I travelled to the Autosport Show at Birmingham’s NECC on January 10th to attend the Motorsport Industry Awards Evening, where many of the great and the good of the Motorsport Industry including the likes Matt Neill of the BTCC and Malcolm Wilson, saluted SOSCC for winning the 2012 National Motorsort Week’s Go Motosrport Award, for running the event that performed best in encouraging non-competitors to take part in motor sport. That event of course was our Demonstration Tar Autotest in Lockerbie’s Tesco car park on July 4th. Paul didnt know it, but as only one person was permitted to go onto the stage to collect the award I had secretly nominated him !.
The £500 will come in very handy, as we now have a new equipment store which needs electricity and lots of handy shelving fitted.
The Awards Evening was a fantastic event and Paul and I both felt that we were lucky to be present at something very special, with many of the executives of companies who supply top class equipment to motorsport’s elite teams and competitors making up the 500 strong crowd, who enjoyed a sumptuous meal, served super-efficiently by an army of waiting staff. And as we arrived a bit early for the pre-dinner drinks reception, we managed to blag free entry into the Autosport Show itself, which was extra special, as Thursday was a trade day and there was none of the pushing and shoving one normally gets on the public days.
Anyhoo, mission accomplished. And the money has been banked until we decide how to spend it on worthwhile investments for the long term good of the club.
